Review: I’ve been using this magnifying glass for awhile now, and it’s really handy.It’s light, the big 110 mm lens makes small print way easier to read, and the 10X/30X zoom is great for hobbies and close-up work. The plastic frame feels sturdy enough, and it works well for both kids and older family members when they need a little extra help seeing the details.

I can’t bring myself to give it 5 stars, however, because of the absurd claims in the advertising that the main lens 10X (magnifies by ten times) and the little one is 30X. In reality, I believe the larger lens is on the order of 2X, maybe a little more because it magnifies a bit more than my +2.00 readers. Measuring the focal length, I calculated about 4X for the little lens on this magnifier. It would be very difficult to make a 10X lens of this size. For one thing, the depth of the lens increases with power, getting more spherical, so a 10X lens would be really fat and heavy. Furthermore, imagine that your “reading glass” indeed magnified the text by ten times: if you were looking at some tiny type that’s about one millimeter high & wide, with this 110 mm diameter lens, only 11 characters would fit in the lens. That would make for some slow reading! Apologies, exaggerated advertising claims like this are a pet peeve of mine.Pet peeves aside, considering this magnifying lens as a reading glass rather than a high power instrument, it has many good features. The advertising is correct that it is very light in the hand. The clarity is good and I didn’t notice much distortion, beyond a little that you would expect as you get towards the edge of the glass. The product page says the lens is made of PMMA. This is a plastic also called Plexiglas or Lucite, and known for passing light well, being glare resistant, not discoloring with UV exposure and being shatter resistant. All nice qualities in a magnifying lens. And, if you are looking for a magnifying glass prop for cosplaying a fictional detective, this will serve you well!The lens comes in a cardboard box, labeled “Magnifier” and exhorting, “Let’s Read”! I am happy that the box doesn’t have false information about the power of the lenses. It’s a little odd that it actually doesn’t say anything about lens power. From it being sold as a reader, though, you could assume something on the order of 2X power. Included is a nice carrying sac and a cleaning cloth, both made of a soft microfiber synthetic fabric.I’ve attached a couple of photos showing how much it magnifies with both the large and small lenses. They’re not great photos, but hopefully, you can get some idea.

Title: Lightweight Magnifying Glass With Large Viewing Area & 10X & 30X Magnification
Review: This handheld magnifying glass is available in 2 sizes, I ordered the larger one. It measures 8-1/8″ H from the top of the rim to the bottom of the handle. The black frame is lightweight & is made from ABS plastic material. The framed upper portion is 4-1/2″ in diameter including the black rim, with the actual lens 4-1/8″ in diameter. The lens is made from HD PMMA acrylic resin that provides crystal clear transparent viewing without any discernible distortion. This magnifying glass has 2 levels of magnification with the larger viewing area providing 10X magnification & 30X in the 7/8″ diameter circle that is located just above where the handle attaches to the rim centered at the bottom of the larger viewing area. The handle is 7/16″ in diameter at the rim & gradually increases to 3/4″ diameter at the bottom. The handle is black ABS plastic with a silver insert on the front, rounded at the top that begins 11/16″ from the bottom of the rim & continues down to the bottom of the handle. A storage bag measuring 8-3/4″ L x 4-5/8″ W has a drawstring closure at the top with the drawstring channel double stitched & the raw edges topstitched to prevent fraying. It is light grey in color with a soft, silky, smooth texture that has a bit of stretch to the fabric. A cleaning cloth approximately 5-1/2″ square is also included. This handheld magnifying glass is comfortable to hold without causing fatigue even if it is used & held for a long duration. It is perfect for reading tiny print on labels, instructions on prescription bottles, inspecting electronics, doing appraisals, or inspecting details on items such as stamps, coins & jewelry. I ordered this just for use in general reading as I continue to encounter documents that have increasingly smaller print. It certainly makes reading that small print easier & less frustrating.
