Title: These made me a believer in closed back headphones!
Review: Now, upfront, I am normally an open back headphone user. I am notoriously harsh on closed back headphones for a number of reasons, but the VAST majority of my issues with most closed back headphones just aren’t here with these, and I’m kind of stunned.Pros:Unbelievably comfortable. They have a bit of “clamp” but it’s not a tight, claustrophobic fit, just a nice seal. Most importantly they don’t get hot. I wore them for 12 hours during a programming session (not counting small breaks to stand up, bathroom, etc.) and never once did I feel even slightly too warm.+ Sound quality is amazing for the most part. You’re going to find some centered mono signals sound dull or “closed in” but this is just the nature of closed back headphones, and one reason I normally hate the things – because most sounds have that to some degree. These, though, actually don’t. I was listening to just some non Premium spotify (so noi LDAC) and I could hear subtleties in the music that I just don’t notice with my normal headphones, even. That genuinely impressed me.Additionally, maybe it’s just the way they’re designed, but at the risk of repeating myself, I don’t normally like the way closed back headphones sound, but with these, I don’t get that “Listening in a box” effect I normally feel from CB headphones. The sound stage, if the music or audio is even remotely decent (basic stereo here, nothing fancyJ!) is sufficioently broad. In properly mastered professional audio, let alone FLAC, it actually sounds better than my open back headphones.+ Active Noise Cancelling and excellent passive noise isolation. Before I even plugged these things in, I already was getting some pretty good noise isolation just from the way the pads comfortably seal around my ears. Once I turned on ANC it was like I was in my own private universe. Folks with autism or ADHD like me understand what a magica feeling this is.Cons:Just one, and this is more of a feature than anything. As the listing clearly states, these won’t work without a charge, even wired. The tradeoff at least, as far as I can tell, is that you get ANC even in wired mode. That’s amazing. Normally, ANC only works in bluetooth mode, so you can plug these into a high quality headphone amp or mixer (I use an MG-XU from Yamaha as my DAC/pre). So, it’s just down to if you care that you need to charge your headphones once a week or not.Other: So the audio passthrough is not going to be on par with, say, Apple Air Pods or $300 headphones, and it shouldn’t be. This is a $50 headset that’s punching JWELL above its weight. These beat my $130 open back and, legitimately, I’m strongly considering making these my new daily drivers after just two days with them. They’re not AS foldable as I’d like, as in, the headband is permanently headband-shapjed, no hinges to fold them into an even more compact form, so it’s a struggle fitting them into my small messenger bag, but I may just get a nice case for them and attach it to my bag with a carabiner!Final verdict: former open back headphones evangelist has been conferted to the dark side. 😈

Title: Good fit but sound quality could be better
Review: EDIT:After using these for awhile (and recently testing them against my QC35s again), I’m not sure what I was thinking about the highs – they seem well tuned in after all. Bass is still too punchy for my liking. Overall very solid performance for $50 pair of headphones. Bumping up one star.——ORIGINAL REVIEWI have to admit my bias – I have had several gadgets from 1Mii before, and all of them were of excellent quality. You could say I’m a fan of the brand. That said, these specific headphones fall below my expectations, specifically because of my previous experience with the brand. Let’s talk about why:- Sound quality – Not terrible, but I expected better. Lows/bass is significantly overpowered. If you’re into loud booming music (R&B/Rap, etc) you’ll love these. I like my frequencies balanced, so this constant thudding of bass feels very unnatural to me. On the other hand, highs are oddly underpowered. It’s possible this is because of the overpowering bass, but in any case, you can hear the highs, they’re just very faint. Mids are OK, but because of this lows/highs imbalance the whole sound picture is off…- Fit – VERY comfortable. I can’t say that I don’t notice them, but they almost feel like they’re floating on my head. This is considering that they’re on the heavier side of the headphones. The leather-wrapped foam cushions on top and around the ears distribute the weight as well as block the incoming sound. This leads us to the next section:- Noise isolation – this is not noise cancelling, but rather how much outside noise do these headphones let in. They’re very good in this regard. In case of just background sounds – equipment humming people talking quietly in the background, etc – this is really all you need. You don’t need ANC. All you need is a good pair of sound proofing headphones. Even if you’re not planning on listening to anything, just putting these on, blocks out the outside world. That said, noise isolation will not help you with legit loud noises. This is where ANC comes in.- ANC – OK. Not the best. ANC button here seems to have 2 modes: ON and what they call transparency mode (which actually amplifies outside sounds). ANC works by listening to the outside sounds and injecting the inverted soundform into your ear such that the two wavesforms cancel each other out. This works especially well for loud steady noises, such as what you’d get on an airplane or a loud car ride. ANC here works OK – It’s definitely much better than without it, but you can still hear the outside world. In terms of comparisons, I’d say it’s about 1/2 to 2/3 of what you’d get with Bose QC35s. Not bad, considering these headphones are only $50. Transparency mode, on the other hand, seems to be shifting the waveform to match the outside waveform so as to amplify the outside sounds. You could hear very clearly even the tiniest outside noises. I don’t know why they did this, but I’m assuming this is was added to combat the good sound isolation properties I mentioned earlier. I could see it being mildly useful if, for example, you’re trying to talk to a stewardess on a flight. Then again, why not just pull off your headphones?Overall. These are OK headphones for the price, but I expected a better sound balance.
