This $2.99 Seasonal ALDI Find Is Now a Year-Round Staple

Every year, my husband and son wait for ALDI’s annual “German Week.” During this time, Aldi introduces a variety of authentic German food products, including items like schnitzel, spaetzle, and cream cakes. Their favorite is the Jaffa cake. 

To my absolute delight, ALDI recently added the delicious cookies as a year-round cookie. 

Why I Love ALDI Benton’s Jaffa Cakes

Jaffa cakes are a type of British cookie, although ALDI’s are made in Germany. They are a round, little sponge cake topped with a layer of jam and then enrobed in dark chocolate. They are so delicious. 

ALDI’s original Jaffa cakes were sold under their Deutsche Küche line, but they were only available once a year. Now, they are permanently sold under the Benton’s label, and a 10.58-ounce package costs only $2.99. Just like the original Deutsche Küche cookies, Benton’s Jaffa Cakes are available in both orange and strawberry flavors and are manufactured in Germany.

Soft, pillowy yellow sponge cake is filled with either strawberry jam or orange marmalade. I am a big fan of the orange because chocolate and orange is a combination made in heaven, but my kiddo prefers the strawberry because he LOVES berries. My hubby likes both because, to him, the chocolate is the feature. It’s dark yet not too dark, and it pairs perfectly with the jam or marmalade.

I cannot tell you just how excited my kid was when he realized that I can buy these Jaffa cakes all year long. I’m personally happy to have some freezer space returned to me after stocking up on them once a year.

Different Ways To Try Jaffa Cakes

Because they were seasonal, they were a special treat for my family in the past. We usually ate them as dessert or as a snack. Now that they’re in stock year-round, I plan to experiment with them.

Given that they’re a type of British confection, I think they’d be great as a layer in trifles, and I can see a layer of strawberry jaffas followed by real strawberries, then cream and pudding. They would also pair well with ice cream, and I think, given their size and shape, they would be perfect to freeze as ice cream sandwiches. 

Mostly, though, I think we will still just eat them right out of the bag because they’re so delicious!
