How To Make Pigs In A Blanket

INGREDIENTS

Crescent Rolls: There’s something very classic about crescent dough, so I tend to gravitate toward it, but puff pastry or even biscuit dough would work in this recipe. If you’re using puff pastry, make sure to build in enough time for it to thaw since you typically buy it frozen.
Mini Cocktail Wieners: These are the perfect size for pigs in a blanket, so they’re my favorite but you can totally use regular hot dogs for pigs in a blanket. Just cut your hot dogs into quarters and proceed with the recipe as is. You can even use different types of sausage: try a spicy andouille or chicken sausage. Just make sure you’re buying the precooked stuff.
Coarse Salt: My secret for taking pigs in a blanket from good to great? A sprinkle of coarse salt on top gives these bites an extra boost of flavor, reminiscent of another fave party snack of ours—homemade pretzels. That being said, you don’t have to stop at just a sprinkle of salt. We’re big fans of topping ours with everything bagel seasoning (like these everything bagel dogs) or brushing with garlic butter before Baking. Alternatively, sprinkle on some poppy seeds, sesame seeds (white and black would make for a nice presentation), granulated onion, or shredded Parmesan. These little guys are kind of a blank slate, ready to be topped with any of your favorite seasonings!

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

This classic app is not only completely delicious, but so easy to create. First, Flour a work surface before unrolling the crescent sheets and tearing where the designated lines are.

Using a sharp knife, cut each triangle into 3 small triangles.

Then, place the cocktail wiener on the thicker side of the triangle, and fold the crescent dough over, rolling to the thinner side.

Once all your pigs are wrapped in their blankets, transfer them to your prepared Baking sheet. Brush with melted butter, then sprinkle generously with coarse salt (or whatever you’re choosing to use).

While your pigs in a blanket are Baking, you can focus on your dipping sauces. I love these served with a homemade mayo-honey mustard dipping sauce, which you can create by combining mayo, Dijon, a little bit of lime juice, and honey. That being said, these bites go great with a variety of dipping sauces (you can’t go wrong with just ketchup and mustard).

What To Serve With Pigs In A Blanket

When it comes to dips, nothing beats a good grainy mustard. Other dip options include (but are certainly not limited to) ketchup, aioli, BBQ sauce, or even ranch dressing.

Storage

You can assemble pigs in a blanket a few hours before you’re ready to bake, simply store covered in the fridge. If you have any leftovers, store in an airtight container in the fridge for around 3 days, then reheat in the oven or air fryer.
