Title: Worthy of 5-stars despite two shortcomings…
Review: This magnifying desk lamp is worthy of 5-stars because of (1) the quality of the optical magnifier (low distortion and low chromatic aberration for a singlet lens when used as intended), (2) the quality of the light (evenly distributed around the magnifier with 3 whitepoint settings and semi-infinitely adjustable brightness) and (3) the price. That said, there are two negatives to this lamp which might or might not affect purchasers depending on their use case.The first “negative” is the supplied method for mounting the lamp to the table is a U-shaped clamp that grabs the edge of the table. This method of mounting the light to the table has the advantage of being non-permanent and anyone is capable of screw-tightening this to a table top. The U-shaped clamp method has three disadvantages:(1) the table top has to have sufficient unobstructed overhang (1.5 inches),(2) the mount cannot be placed on the edge of the table that is against the wall and(3) there must be no obstructions to the arm movement next to the table (like a wall or another object.In my case, the table top has only 5/8 inch overhang, so using the supplied table mount was a no-go. The solution was to use a table mount that is permanently affixed to the table top. This requires drilling a hole in the table top (not a problem for most work tables, but could be a non-starter for a valuable table) and to have the appropriate hardware. Sadly, I do not see that Bemelux sells the needed hardware, but luckily I had a leftover table mount from one of my Rode microphone stands. I am not sure if Rode sells these separately or not, but the threaded desk mount comes standard with their “professional studio arm”. Mine is an older version with a hole only for the lamp arm, but the newer version on sale now has a second hole that is intended for the microphone cable, but would be ideal for the lamp’s power cord (how cool would that be to have a completely hidden power cord!). The end result is a very slick installation that is super sturdy (see photos).The second negative of this desk lamp is the mechanism used to hold the lamp/magnifier in place is a simple friction thumbscrew. The lamp/magnifier combination is heavy, so one has to tighten that thumbscrew significantly. That would not be a problem if the angle of the he lamp/magnifier combination needed to be fixed only once and then left in place, but that is not the case. Unless you never move the he lamp/magnifier to different positions as you work, you will need to un-tighten and then re-tighten this thumbscrew every single time. Not only is this a pain, but I see this thumbscrew wearing out in short order (the unit is new, so this is a hypothesis, not an observation of an actual event).In summary, the lamp is actually better than it should be for the price, but it would be nice if Bemelux offered a premium unit that was supplied with both an optional in-desk mount as described above and a more sophisticated mechanism to attach the lamp/magnifier to the arm that did not require a thumbscrew lock.

Title: Large lens
Review: I draw so I need a large lens like the ones architects use. This magnifying lamp is on the heavy side, but it stays put on my arm desk. The arm is long enough to reach across my large drafting table. It’s fully adjustable. I use it in conjunction with my light box with the light off. It offers great magnification without the distortion I was getting from smaller hobby lamps.

Title: Much sturdier than many of the workbench magnifier lights on this marketplace.
Review: My previous workbench magnifier light broke where it plugs into the clamp because of cheap thin aluminum.This one is very much sturdier, and I doubt that will happen.The magnifier head is quite heavy – lighter would be nice – it’s straining what I have it clamped to.Maybe also having separate switches for color-balance and on/off.It would also be nice if it could hinge in a way to allow moving the magnifier closer to the clamp-side.

Title: A perfect work light!
Review: I use this lamp just as often for overhead lighting as I do for up close magnification work. I love that I can change the color of the light–I pick different color for different projects. The fixture itself is metal, very heavy duty, and does not move once you position it. I am very happy.

Title: Best of all, it stays where you put it.
Review: After several attempts, this was the lamp I selected, and it was. worth the effort. The size of the magnifying glass. is excellent, and I do not have to squint. I can use both eyes to get a clear feet. of vision.Also, I can extend it and it stays in position.. It does not slowly sink. like other lamps do. The ability. to move it in and out of use and still. hold its settings for the magnifier is perfect.In addition, the different lighting modes. (There are 3 ), do indeed give you. different levels of detail in your work.. Overall, a great purchase..
