The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall of 24 fresh fruit products due to a potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination found in the cut cantaloupe. Wholesale Produce Supply has issued a recall for its fresh-cut/processed cantaloupe that was sold to distributors in Nebraska, North Dakota, and Wisconsin.

How To Identify the Recalled Fresh-Cut Fruit

The contaminated cantaloupe was sold in both traditional plastic clamshell containers, as well as in mixed containers with other fruits. The recalled products were sold under the names “Harvest Cuts” and “Fresh & Finest” at multiple grocery stores.

What To Do if You Have the Recalled Fruit

If you have the recalled fruit, you should not consume it. Instead, throw it away or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Additionally, be sure to thoroughly clean any surface the contaminated fruit may have touched.

There have been no illnesses reported at this time; however, if you have consumed the recalled cantaloupe or mixed fruit, you should monitor yourself for symptoms of listeria infection. Listeriosis symptoms typically include high fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

Listeria can infect anyone, but it can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in children, those with weakened immune systems, older individuals, and pregnant people.

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms or have questions about listeriosis, you should contact your healthcare provider. For questions regarding this recall, you can call Wholesale Produce Supply at (612) 378-2025.
