Title: very precise area of useable focus
Review: As some others have noted, this item has a very precise area that is in focus. It is really only useful if the person is seated and is looking at an object that is at the right position for focus. Example: hobbyist looking at small parts. Trying to use it while standing to read labels did not work for me.

Title: Unusable lenses
Review: I found this item virtually useless for the task I bought it for, quickly checking frames of many reels of 8mm movies for age, subject and family relevance to sort them for digitizing. Other reviewers note the poor lens quality of this item, but it might warrant a little more detail. Although unscratched, they appear to be amusement quality rather than optical quality. The view through the lenses is distorted and without consistent focus. The lenses are plastic and seem comparable to the magnifying glass that once appeared in cracker jack boxes or inexpensive amusement assortments. They simply did not allow me to view the film images adequately.

Title: The Solution!
Review: My vision with correction is about 20/80. I read magazines, books, and use computers extensively. I went to a low-vision doctor who sold me a pair of $400 reading glasses. They did the job but were very heavy, and the frames were of average quality. When the temple broke I began searching for a less-expensive alternative. I found the OcuLens for $7 and it is near-perfect for my needs. Keep in mind – it is a magnifier, which means it’s not designed to work at normal reading distance. (Neither were the $400 glasses). It needs to be closer to the eye, just like any magnifying glass. Also keep in mind that it is cheaply made, and requires reasonable handling. The two things that make it ideal for me are: 1) The clip works, and as far as I can tell, will work on any pair of glasses. 2) The distance from the eye is adjustable – a must for my needs, and a feature I have found on no other product. For those with good vision – do not expect high-quality optics. You get what you pay for. My vision is poor enough that I can’t tell the difference. The OcuLens easily clips onto my wire-frame glasses, between the lenses. I can adjust the distance and angle from my right eye (the only working eye), and I can move it up and out of the way when I need to use my glasses normally. The OcuLens adds very little weight, so I can leave it attached as I walk around for short periods of time, having it ready when I need to read or examine something close up. I’ve been using it constantly for two weeks, moving it in every direction and position; it remains firmly in whatever position I place it. I’ve dropped it a few times, and it has held up very well. It will sometimes come off when I set my glasses down without folding the temples, but it does not come off during use.An example of a more expensive and less effective product is the Bausch & Lomb Sight Savers eyeglass loupe. It’s $35 – $70 and the clip is almost useless. It won’t clip to my wire or plastic frames. The instructions’ tiny print is barely readable, which I find ironic, especially from a company that should know better. Assuming the clip did work, the distance from the eye is not adjustable.I have purchased three of the OcuLens, as it is not a high-quality item, and I don’t know how long it will last. But it is the answer to my reading requirements, and I recommend it with no hesitation.A word to the newly-visually impaired: When your vision becomes as poor as mine, your reading habits will change. It’s unlikely you’ll be able to hold your material at a distance. You will have to learn how to sit up straight while holding the material close to your face, doing your best not to bend your neck, as you may develop neck or back problems. There are other reading aids, like video tools and such, but for a portable solution you’ll probably end up with thick glasses or an item like the OcuLens.Update: It’s been a year and this device has not failed in the least. The joints still hold, good as new. I’ve learned that the rubber feet can come off and get lost, but a touch of glue solves this problem. I’m now in the habit of slipping it in my pocket for reading menus.

Title: Not suitable for reading
Review: I thought this item would help magnify reading materials while I recover from a short-term vision problem in one eye. These lenses do clip on easily, rotate easily (to “flip” out of the way), and they do magnify. However, with either lens you have to hold an object within 2-3″ of your face in order to resolve the image. I was disappointed that it won’t work for an object held at reading distance, or even 6″ away from my glasses.I imagine these might be helpful for removing a splinter (provided you can get the affected body part that close to your face), or for threading a needle. There is no other activity I do where I would want to hold an object that close to my face.I’m rating this item low because it doesn’t do what I expected, although maybe it’s my fault for not understanding what the magnification levels meant when I ordered the item. Beyond that, I expect it would have a short useful life because it is made of very light, thin plastic, and I suspect the parts will eventually break when swapping out the two lenses. The design is clever, and one shouldn’t expect much for $5-6, but it does not seem substantial enough to last with any significant usage.

Title: Swivels and adjustable
Review: Was skeptical of the quality at first. The rubber claw will touch your glasses but it hasn’t smudged mine. It felt quite balanced. I didn’t feel too much extra weight over my nose bridge. Am able to see very well and whether you like your magnifying glass close to your face or a bit farther, it reaches out a good way. You can’t use both at once to combine. Also difficult a bit to remove and switch the magnifying glasses. But I’m also weak so take that with a grain of salt. Be careful of getting too close where your head blocks light necessary to see though.

Title: Awesome optics for the price! Use for fine repairs, PCBA work, fly tying, etc.
Review: I love these – I’ve purchased several of these over the years. I first learned of them on a well-known reading glasses website, and was glad to find them here where I can get free shipping at the same price. The construction is a bit cheesy and you have to be careful with them so not to break them, but for the price you can’t beat it. I use these for anything that requires close-up work – fine repairs, printed circuit board work, fly tying, etc.

Review: I’ve only just barely opened the package but its like Christmas morning because I wasn’t anticipating to absolutely love this magnifier.A very simple design made of plastic and assembly even a monkey could put it together so no instructions are actually required. Priced at tube lower end if it gets broken just replace it. If you use prescription eyeglasses or reading glasses you will love the clip on feature and its mini universal joint you attach one of the two lenses too.I conclude in the mere half hour within my possession I would highly recommend it if youre sourcing out a magnifier of this kind or even s handled for rust matter. Feature absent is am LED light.
