Title: Great screen, challenging user interface
Review: I thought my eyesight was too poor to make use of such a device until I tried the Visolux Digital HD during a recent low vision exam. I was impressed with the bright, high-contrast screen and light weight. The controls for power, zoom, scroll, palette, and snapping a photo were all tactile buttons that were intuitive to operate. All these aspects sold me on the device, and I purchased it.Now that I’ve had it for a couple days, I can say that all the above remains true. However, the device has a built-in settings menu for additional functionality, and the accessibility of that menu is quite poor. Menu options are large icons that might be difficult for low vision users to decipher. The built-in palette control doesn’t affect the menu icons, so there’s no way to change their appearance to make them easier to view. An on-screen display indicates the current battery charge, but I found the font difficult to read and not customizable. The charging light is either red or green, which is pretty useless for anyone who is color blind or otherwise suffers from compromised color perception. The printed manual is pretty much useless for anyone with low vision. A PDF version is available, but so far, my attempts to convert it to a screen reader-friendly format have not met with much success.I’m giving the product 5 stars nonetheless, because it’s still fantastic at its basic function. With this device, I’ll still be able to get an eyeball on tiny print when necessary, and before I bought it, I had pretty much given up even trying. Nonetheless, buyers should be aware that the device’s user interface and manual are not really designed with low vision users in mind.

Title: Excellent magnifier, mamoth manua, bizzare websitel
Review: Great magnifier. Solidly made and delivers all that is promised. The only drawback is the manual. It takes 15 pages for each language but what is included is a 230 page book for a multitude oflanguages. It would be a minimal cost for Escenbach to print a tiny manual unique for each language.Otherwise, you will be pleased with the magnifier.Update 3/12/18. Downgraded from 4 to 3 stars. The device is still excellent but… Poor as it was, I damaged the manual and tried to findit online and print it. Two hours later I give up. It printed pages 18 to 29 but there is no way to print pp. 30-33. The company has excellentengineers but needs people who can help customers use their good product.

Title: This product is well made. And it delivers all …
Review: This product is well made. And it delivers all that it promises. Unfortunately, it did not provide the aid that we needed. That is the only reason that I rated it the way I did.

Title: Offers little value over a free app on a high end cell phone, and costs $250 to return
Review: To start with you cannot return this item to Amazon, and this 3rd party seller is going to charge you a “25% restocking fee as allowable to cover cost/time for packing & materials,” so it will cost you $250 just to look at this device. See the attached screenshot when I tried to return it, and this “restocking fee” is not disclosed in the product description. And, if you do return it as I did, you get to pay the return shipping. This device appears to be a simple, fixed focus, older model cell phone camera, with only 2 MP resolution, tied to a less than impressive digital display. In the item description, it says “Magnification: 2x to 22x in steps or continuous zoom.” I believe this text to be misleading. since I was misled. There is no actual “magnification” change, this “magnification” in really just a digital zoom the image up to 22X. Of course, when you start with that few pixels, it looks bad on their 7-inch display, which you see the top half of the attached photo. Because this device appears to literally use an old and low-resolution camera it delivers inferior optical performance compare to the 10MP+ cameras on a high-end cell phone today (costing the same amount or less than this device and have much more capability) running a free reader app. In the attached picture I have this device at “22X” (upper) and my Galaxy Note 9 phone (lower) “10.8X” looking at the same Denver penny. This review is not a pitch for Note 9, that just happens to be my phone. The top end iPhone, LG, etc. I am sure will do equally as well. Apart from raising the question of how this “22X” is calculated in my comparison photo, you can see how inferior the Eschenbach image is compared to Note 9. The Note 9 has a 6.4″ display, and this device a 7.” The display quality on the Note 9 is obviously superior. Full retail on a Note 9 is $999, same as this device. You can download the Android app I used for the picture (Magnifier Optical Eyeglasses 30x zoom Photo Video) for free, get more “magnification” from the 12 MP camera on the Note. This app also turns on the Note light for reading. $1,000 would not appear to be worth .6 inches more display. A good phone with the right app does a lot more than this device for the same money.
