Title: Super happy with this but I can understand other negative reviews.
Review: I was very hesitant to buy this. I had tried one of those microscopes with a 7″ screen, I also tried a handheld camera that connected to a USB on my computer and that was not that great. This is perfect. It’s not to bulky and it does actually work really well. However there are some things you need to take into consideration. First off just like a magnifying glass you have to vary how far away from the object you hold this. Too far and the item appears dark and out of focus. You also have to understand that if an older person is using this and their hands shake that will causes problems. You basically get the same effect as if you zoomed all the way in on your cell phone camera and then spun around to aim it at something. It basically just becomes super hard to lock onto an object at that point as the image becomes jittery and impossible to get back in focus. What I like. It’s pretty essay to operate, turn it on hold it about 1/8″ above what you want to read and it will show you a clear magnified image. There are buttons to make the text larger or smaller, like I said super easy to use. What I don’t like. This has options for you to record what you see onto a memory card. It’s one of those things where you just have to ask, why? Why would anyone want to record something they are magnifying? This extra feature just adds extra buttons and makes it complicated for older folks. So does it work? Yes, really well. However, If you are buying for someone you have to be honest about whether they can A, turn it on and b, hold it steady. If those two things are a concern this may not be for them.

Title: REALLY IMPRESSED!
Review: [To start with…no, I’m not associated with the vendor or manufacturer, etc.] —This inexpensive 3.5″ video magnifier is well made and all features work easily and as promoted. I bought it for a 95-year-old man with severe macular degeneration, especially impacting close up vision. He has other hand held magnifiers and they are minimally helpful. Was trying to find something that would work better for him. Tried glasses with interchangeable lenses 2.5x to 25x…was not useful for him. Bought this video device and tried it myself including attached to my TV…worked really really great! Took it to his place and for the first time, he could use it by himself and be able to read words and track along to the next word. I think with practice, he could read with it. Unfortunately, his TV was lacking the ability to easily switch inputs to its yellow RCA port. He has a PC with a modern monitor and will be looking into utilizing either a RCA to HDMI or RCA to RGA adapter. Should work, and make this device even more useful for him. With the TV (or possibly monitor) aspect, he probably won’t need the larger, more expensive models…important on his fixed income. I was afraid it would be flimsy and not last, but this was not the case…it is well made. It has a useful manual, but could be improved to be more clear to ordinary folks like us. I might buy another one for myself. 5 stars for sure!

Title: Does not work to look at phone.
Review: Works well for newspaper and paper items. Doesnt work well for screens. Family member with macular degeneration works well for them to read paper and mail.

Title: A life-changer
Review: I got this for someone with failing vision. This person has lost vision completely in one eye and the other is slowly getting worse. I looked at many similar digital magnifiers and most were very expensive. This one is perfect. With it things they can read things that were impossible to read before: the tine print on pill bottles, the expiration dates on food packages, small text in recipes, the fine print on the documents and medical forms.Unlike some I looked at with buttons difficult to read for those with failing vision, the buttons on this model are well placed and well marked so there is not fumbling and confusion in operationIt works so well bought a second one as a backup.

Title: Very pleased with!
Review: This was purchased for my grandmother to use around the house and while out. She has macular degeneration and this has been a great tool for helping her to read recipes, food labels, prices at the grocery store etc etc. I looked at a lot of similar and more expensive products before deciding to go with this one. This one was definitely the right choice! Affordable and useful! Quality product…Highly recommended!

Title: Wonderful!
Review: I’ve just read a chapter in a book that contains multiple fonts, font sizes and colors, and illustrations, and the magnifier has been excellent. It’s easy to click bigger for reading italics, and back to a lower magnification for the rest. I was worried that this would track poorly, as video-camera readers used to, which is that as you move the reader, the text on the screen would stretch out into gray, and only slowly come back into focus. This magnifier tracks beautifully, even on the largest zoom, and moving quickly. Hooray! It is easy to keep it on the line of text. It took me a couple minutes, and returning to the sale site, to figure out how to pull out the stand, but it works well once you get it. On my book, the foldable stand ran up against the book binding on the right page while reading, so, I put it back down, and it slid over just fine. This opens up a whole trove of books I could not read before, because they were not on kindle (I use text to speech), or in the NILS Talking Book and Braille Library; or as audiobook on hoopla. I am super glad to be able to “read” again! And P.S. the reviewer that said her mom could not insert the USB to charge, hey, lady, do it by feel? You can’t use your eyes for everything!

Review: It’s very clear and works well.. As stated in the description it has 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x and 25 x magnification. I use it on 2x and it doesn’t quite cover a column so you have to move it back and forth when reading a newspaper. I have macular degeneration so this magnifier is very helpful. I bought a second one for my office because I have trouble reading documents.

Review: I wondered if this was just a gimmick, or not.Turns out to be very good. Turn it on, and it says, Welcome. If you open the feet on the reverse, you can lay it flat on the script you want to read. It is illuminated by three light bars, which does the job very well. It has four type of magnifying options to choose from. The little machine fits snuggly in your hand, is light an comes with a nice pouch. What else? There are different colours to read the screen, a function to freeze the script, and if you use a memory card, you can keep your peice. It says goodbye when you turn it off. Very nice!

Review: This item seems to be very well constructed, and has a simple, intuitive user interface. Of course with the small screen you can only magnify a small area at a time, but devices with larger screens cost 10x as much. The attached photo is a screen capture done with the device set to 4x magnification. The text in this case was printed with an inkjet printer on plain paper, so is not as sharp as commercial printing, but I used this example to illustrate device usage with different font sizes. (Typical fine print is at least 6 pt).If you want to read War and Peace, this isn’t the tool to use (try an audiobook instead), but e.g. for checking details in a recipe book or a medication prescription, someone with problems reading smaller print could find this tool very useful. For folks with a steady hand, the Magnifier app on their iPhone might work just as well, but others will like the fact that this device can be set down and used hands-free.
