Title: Must have
Review: Is your dad stubborn? Deaf as a post but won’t admit it? Mine’s the same, so I got him these, he loves ’em, they work great, and the case is handy. Didn’t cost a fortune, and he’s finally getting his hearing checked at the hospital.

Title: decent ear amplifiers, if that’s all you need
Review: 1/14/2025: (STARVIKY Brand) Hearing Aids Hearing Amplifiers for Seniors & Adults, Rechargeable with Noise-Canceling and 3 Selectable Modes, Invisible Lightweight Ear Amplifiers for Mild to Severe Hearing Loss, with Charging CaseThese are pretty good, but you should set your expectations appropriately. These are simple hearing amplifiers, which raise the volume of all frequencies. If you have overall hearing loss at all frequencies, these would be great for more quiet environments (like if you’re just watching tv or having a conversation with one or maybe 2 people), but in a louder environment the background noise will also be amplified and these will not be as useful. They claim to have a chip to filter out background noise and feedback, and maybe it works well compared to other hearing amplifiers (I don’t have other amplifiers to compare these against), but they don’t cut out enough background noise for me to use in a noisy environment. My hearing loss is only in the lower frequencies but it’s not bad enough for me to go and spend thousands of dollars on hearing aids. I thought maybe an amplifier would work, but when I make them loud enough to help with the low frequencies, all of the other frequences become too loud for me. So they didn’t help me much, though I can see them being useful to other people in specific situations. They did fit comfortably in my ears, and I like the charging case a lot. I did not charge them when they arrived, and the battery lasted fine through all of my testing. I did not try using them for hours and hours so I can’t really comment on battery life though.I wish I could give these 3.5 stars. 3 seems low considering they don’t claim to be anything more than amplifiers anyway, but I can’t give 4 stars to something I can’t really use.

Title: Above average
Review: I have reviewed 7 or 8 hearing amplifiers/hearing aids for Vine priced from $40 to $99. None of them, including this one, is truly a hearing aid in the sense that it is fitted and adjusted by a trained professional. But then, they do not cost $thousands. They otherwise make sound louder, and none of them, including this one, have very clear and balanced sound.I use a $50 in the ear amplified mostly, so I tested the Starviky against it. (where do they come up with these names?) $50 vs $99.They both have tinny sound compared to real hearing, but that’s the best you can expect in this price line. The in the ear amplifier has better resolution for ordinary sounds, but the SV had more natural sounding human voice when set on the #2 Indoor Mode. The SV was also easier to adjust while wearing. When it comes to visibility, the in the ear model is less noticeable, even though the SV claims to be “invisible”Both claim to the noise cancelling but how does an inexpensive hearing amplifier determine what is noise to you. Sound is sound. Ear buds can use electronic noise cancelling, because the sound you want to hear comes from an external electronic source. The SV charging case is nice in that it is easy to open and indicates the charging percentage for each device. Comes with a C cable, too.So, for the money, the SV hearing amplifier is an above average device compared to the others I tested. It has reduced squeal because, in part, it gives you a 10 sec delay to insert into the ear canal.Hearing loss occurs for many reasons, and a doctor’s exam is in order. What works for one and what sounds good may not be the same for everyone. But I will go 4 Stars on the SV hearing amplifier. P.S., the in the ear model I like is no longer available.

Title: Not “smart” but probably sufficient
Review: This is a set of basic standalone classic hearing aids. No app, no Bluetooth, no detailed customization, and of course no four digit price tag! The kit comes with a rechargeable charging base where the two hearing aids recharge when stored, even if the base is not plugged in. The case is nicely rounded and snaps closed securely with magnets. The front has indicators for the charging progress so we can verify that they are inserted correctly and have proper contact. The base charges via USB C.There are several sizes of silicon adapters that go in the ear and we are supposed to pick the right size. This is by trial and error and we just need to try a few until it feels right. These adapters are a bit hard to pull off because initially we don’t really know how to grab them without tearing them apart. It comes with a quite technical “User guide” booklet and a more useful illustrated foldout “operation guide” in color. Th operations guide is detailed and even has recommendation for the first few weeks of use. Each side is independent and must be operated separately using the three controls on each. There is a delay after turning on with the power switch, after which we can adjust the volume with the top wheel or change the mode with the middle button. There are three modes and we can tell the current mode by the number of beeps after it it selected. The three modes are “Normal”, Indoor” and “Outdoor”. (Note that the Amazon page incorrectly lists four modes.)Getting used to them is a slow process and they recommend to start with 30 minutes per day. One issue is “lip sync”, e.g. when watching TV. There is a very small delay between the lip movements of the actors and the voices heard. This is common to all hearing aids and cause by the time to process the signals and just takes getting used to. Some might never notice it.Overall, they are easy to put on, feel comfortable to wear, and seem to work just fine. A reasonable choice for the price.
