Ikea’s New $4 Dinnerware Is So Good One Fan Used It for a Wedding

Ikea is the go-to destination for just about anything you’d need in your home. As a kid, I remember browsing the maze of aisles, wondering how the store could possibly have so many items. And then there’s the delicious food court menu featuring those classic Swedish meatballs.

But besides the food to fuel your shopping, Ikea has great kitchen copycats, from an Oxo look-alike to Our Place-inspired pans at a fraction of the cost. Now, the Swedish retailer has new dinnerware that looks like it’s straight off the shelves from Pottery Barn or Crate & Barrel, but unlike those brands, this stoneware is $4 a piece.

Ikea’s Krustistel dinner plates have an impressive glaze and a dynamic dipped effect, which looks so much more expensive than it is. The color-block design is slightly textured, creating a handcrafted look, too. With its rustic yet modern feel, these plates look like ones you’d find on the shelves at a more high-end home store—but without the high-end price tag. 

The 10-inch dinner plates are available in two chic neutrals: light beige and gray. Each plate is priced at $3.99, so if you wanted to buy a traditional dinner set of eight plates, it would only set you back $32. And if you’re looking for more pieces, the Krustistel collection also includes matching eight-inch appetizer plates for just $2.99 each. Ikea also sells a bowl-like deep plate in the same colors for just $3.49. 

What’s so great about this dinnerware is that it looks extremely sophisticated, yet it’s such a bargain. Even better: It’s microwave and dishwasher-safe. If you’re not sure about the plate’s durability due to its low cost, fellow Ikea shoppers have left reviews on how pleased they were with how the plates have held up and look on their own dinner table.

“I bought them for a wedding rehearsal dinner, and now have them in my kitchen,” one shopper said. “I received a lot of compliments.”
