Title: >> COMPARISON WITH OTHER BRANDS AND TYPES
Review: UPDATE–After 3 years of daily use, I find “JM Elastic Silicone Retainers” to be the best overall of a dozen types and brands of eyeglass retainers I’ve tried. At $3 each (the price I paid), they are also the cheapest. I’ve found it convenient to use an orange retainer on my reading glasses — to make them easy to distinguish and find in dim conditions; conservative black for my normal distant glasses, and blue for my driving glasses.TIP: If the tip of the earpiece of your eyeglasses is skinny (i.e., it doesn’t swell to a 3/16″ or so bulge), then “push-on retainers” can start slipping off after a few days, as soon as a little skin oil accumulates between the inside of the sleeves and your glasses legs — or immediately if you install the retainer on oily glasses legs. Before you install the retainers the first time, thoroughly wash your glasses — particularly the legs — with hand soap and dry. Do NOT switch the retainer from one pair of glasses to another. If you have several pair of glasses, buy a retainer for each one. Sure, you can clean your eyeglasses and the retainers with hand soap and you can use a QTip clean the inside of the push-on retainer sleeve — but it is best never to contaminate the inside of the sleeve.>> It is best to consider a push-on retainer as “permanently” installed on your glasses — that is do not de-install a push-on retainer unless it slips-off on its own. You could even use a tiny dab of silicon glue to really make the retainers semi-permanent (silicon glue can be rubbed-off or scrapped off most non-porous surfaces).PREMISE: For near-sighted individuals (like myself) the key feature of “push-on eyeglass retainers” (as opposed to “ahead of the ear-type eyeglass [or “temple”] retainers”) is that you can quickly (1-handed, in 1-step) temporarily hang your glasses from your ears to take a photo or read a menu, etc. Of course, you can also hang your glasses from your neck – but that requires lowering your glasses and then unhooking them from each ear (a 2-step, 2-handed process).JM ELASTIC SILICONE PUSH-ON RETAINERS> Advantages:– Long enough for my glasses to hang (from my ears) below my (short) beard.– The “rubber” cord is very slightly more rigid than a fabric cord and therefore doesn’t “bunch up” on your ears when you raise your glasses from hanging to back on your nose (and ears). Therefore, on/off and off/on are easy 1-step 1-handed operations.–The rubber cord is much less rigid than a steel cable. The rubber cord bends enough to place the glasses (with the retainer attached) in an eyeglass case. I use zipper-sided soft cases.–For sports, you can shorten the cord with a simple overhand knot. It is easy to undo the knots. But a knot in the silicon cord is NOT as secure as the movable clips on some fabric push-on retainers. The elasticity of the silicon cord makes it relatively easy to put your eyeglasses in place on your head, and remove them.> Disadvantages: The cord lies on the back of your neck, and can be annoying, maybe for the first day or so. I found it easy to get used to, and then forget.STEEL-CABLE PUSH-ON TYPE PUSH-ON RETAINERS (such as “Cablz Original Style Cable Eyewear Retention System”)> Advantages: The cable is off your neck. Easy, 1-step, 1-handed on/off or off/on — even easier than with silicon retainers.> Disadvantages: The 14″ cable retainer (the longest version available) is too short for me – hanging from my ears, my eyeglasses brush against my (short) beard), “painting” my glasses with beard oil. The steel cable pushes my eyeglasses forward when resting my head against a chair headrest. It is difficult or impossible to place my eyeglasses in an eyeglass case with the retainer attached, because the steel cable resist bending in a small diameter. The steel cable also annoys my parrot (by brushing against him when I move my head) — with predictable results. You CANNOT shorten the cord with an overhand knot for sports, etc.FABRIC CORD-TYPE PUSH-ON RETAINERS (such as Chums 3mm Universal Fit)> Advantages: The cord lies on your neck, but lightly – so, annoyance is minimal. It is possible to stow your glasses in an eyeglass case with the retainer attached. Some brands/models have built-in clips you can use to shorten the cord, primarily for sports.> Disadvantages: The fabric cord often sorta bunches-up at the top of my ear when I put my glasses back on (after hanging from my ears), so, I have to straighten the cord. So, often it’s NOT a simple 1-hand 1-step motion to put my glasses back on. If your particular fabric retainer does not have a clip for shortening for sports etc., tying an overhand knot to shorten is NOT recommended, because the knot can be very difficult to undo.AHEAD OF THE EAR RETAINERSWith “ahead of the ear retainers” you can directly (1-step, 1-handed) lower your glasses from your nose to hang from your neck, but putting your glasses back on is usually a 2-handed operation. In addition, “ahead of the ear retainers” don’t attach at a particular place on your eyeglass temples, so readjusting the attachment point on one or both sides adds an additional step or two. So, putting on glasses with “ahead of the ear retainers” is usually a 2-handed, 2–3-step process. Even so, “ahead of the ear retainers” can be the most convenient solution if you mostly need to hang your glasses from your neck for relatively long periods. But, in my opinion, the teacher/librarian “look” is not flattering.> Caveat, a partial solution for eyeglass frames which do not swell greatly at the “foot” of the “legs” is to install a pair of o-rings on each leg to hold the retainers in place, best about 1″ back from the hinge.

Title: Hold my glasses on better
Review: These work well, and do not slip off the earpieces. Bonus: adding the rubber bits to the ends of my earpieces hold my glasses on better.Frustrations: My glasses no longer fit in their hard case. The rubber string gets caught, which make taking my glasses off more difficult, when I put on a jacket or backpack.

Title: They work as expected~
Review: hard to find a strap that is easy on and off, sleek not bulky material, Good length, and flexible so it stretches and doesn’t break the glasses in pieces every time my glasses snag on something.

Title: Mixed Feelings About These
Review: I’m happy with the price of these eyeglass holders. By and large they do the job well. After awhile, one side wasn’t gripping the glasses so well, so I needed to put some tape on the glasses for a tighter fit—not a big deal. The silicone looks like it will last a long time. However, because it’s rubber, it tends to stick to your skin and clothes, so it’s harder to flip it around to your back. Not usually a problem, but inconvenient if you want to carry groceries or hug someone—it will take some effort to move the glasses out of the way, or risk them getting bent. I think next time I’ll just order the braided cord type of holders.

Title: Nice glasses strap
Review: Purchased this item for my sunglasses and love it. Length is perfect for my small body (5’ 2”) and glasses hang just below my collarbone. Lightweight, water/sweat proof, don’t slide off the glasses and durable. I have short hair so don’t have issues with them pulling hair on the nape of my neck. Would recommend.
