  • 0:00 | welcome back to our Moroccan Adventure
  • 0:02 | today we’re starting in the Argon
  • 0:05 | forests near esaa where the famous tree
  • 0:08 | climbing goats are known to snack on the
  • 0:10 | fruit of the Argan tree from there we’ll
  • 0:12 | visit a local Argan Oil Cooperative to
  • 0:15 | see how this prized oil is made using
  • 0:17 | traditional methods afterwards we’re
  • 0:20 | heading to cablanca but not before
  • 0:22 | stopping to witness an incredible
  • 0:24 | Fantasia performance an age-old Moroccan
  • 0:27 | tradition showcasing skilled horse ride
  • 0:30 | iders it’s a day full of unique
  • 0:33 | experiences we’re Chris and Lydia let’s
  • 0:36 | dive
  • 0:37 | in in our previous video we explored the
  • 0:41 | beautiful Seaside city of esaa it really
  • 0:44 | has a bit of everything all the history
  • 0:46 | and Medina shopping with come to love in
  • 0:48 | Morocco but with a relaxed layback vibe
  • 0:51 | that felt like a breath of fresh
  • 0:54 | air esaa is as picturesque as it is
  • 0:58 | vibrant a cultural hub for filled with
  • 1:00 | art live music and Local Charm after
  • 1:03 | more than 2 weeks on the road around
  • 1:05 | Morocco it was the perfect spot to
  • 1:07 | unwind have some fun and soak it all in
  • 1:11 | but as I say all good things must come
  • 1:13 | to an end so this morning we left the
  • 1:16 | windy city of esaa on route to Caza
  • 1:19 | Blanca
  • 1:23 | [Music]
  • 1:32 | the esaa region of Southwest Morocco is
  • 1:36 | unique as the only place in the world
  • 1:38 | where the Argan tree grows naturally
  • 1:41 | this Hardy tree can live for up to 200
  • 1:43 | years in semi-desert conditions where
  • 1:45 | other trees struggle to
  • 1:47 | survive the fruit of the Argan tree is a
  • 1:50 | favorite snack for local goats and
  • 1:53 | apparently they go to Great Lengths to
  • 1:55 | get it we’re in the Argon Forest looking
  • 1:59 | to see if we can see any of the goats
  • 2:01 | climbing
  • 2:03 | trees apparently they do that
  • 2:06 | here our guide ilas assures us that
  • 2:09 | climbing goats are no meth when I tell
  • 2:13 | them goats climbing trees they go like
  • 2:15 | seriously yes they do you keep an eye
  • 2:19 | with me please seek uh girls with their
  • 2:26 | sh we met a lovely goat herder who was
  • 2:29 | more than happy to introduce us to a
  • 2:31 | tribe of goats hoping to catch them in
  • 2:33 | action as they climbed the Argan
  • 2:36 | trees yes yes yes yes
  • 2:40 | ohing look she’s looking yeah there’s
  • 2:43 | another
  • 2:44 | [Music]
  • 2:53 | one apparently they do climb the trees
  • 2:55 | but there’s too much Greenery around too
  • 2:59 | many flowers
  • 3:00 | on the ground why would you climb a tree
  • 3:03 | if you don’t have
  • 3:06 | to the goats eat the fleshy pulp of the
  • 3:08 | Argan fruit and spit out the hard nut
  • 3:11 | inside which locals then collect to
  • 3:13 | produce Argan
  • 3:16 | Oil unfortunately we never did see a
  • 3:18 | goat actually climb a tree though Lydia
  • 3:21 | did manage to snap a quick photo of one
  • 3:23 | Old Goat perched amongst the
  • 3:25 | branches if you ever make it to esaa in
  • 3:28 | late spring or early summer you might
  • 3:30 | have better luck it would definitely be
  • 3:32 | a sight worth
  • 3:34 | seeing hey buddy can you tell me the
  • 3:38 | donkeys climb trees as
  • 3:42 | well producing argan oil is a labor
  • 3:45 | intensive process traditionally carried
  • 3:47 | out by women in
  • 3:49 | cooperatives we visited one such
  • 3:51 | Cooperative where they demonstrated the
  • 3:53 | Hands-On traditional methods they still
  • 3:56 | use cracking the nuts to extract the oil
  • 3:58 | Rich kernels and then pressing the
  • 4:00 | kernels with a millstone to release the
  • 4:04 | oil if the Argan nut is roasted before
  • 4:07 | pressing the oil can be used in cooking
  • 4:10 | especially in a dish called amlu a
  • 4:12 | Moroccan spread made with Argan Oil
  • 4:15 | almonds and honey which we saw being
  • 4:17 | made and sold in the esaa
  • 4:19 | Medina when the nut is pressed without
  • 4:22 | roasting the oil is used in skin care
  • 4:24 | and hair treatments prized for its
  • 4:26 | richness in vitamins antioxidants and
  • 4:29 | essential IAL fatty
  • 4:30 | acids we were shown a wide variety of
  • 4:33 | cosmetic products and Lydia made sure to
  • 4:36 | do her part in supporting The
  • 4:38 | [Music]
  • 4:43 | Cooperative just down the road from the
  • 4:45 | Argan Oil Cooperative we made a surprise
  • 4:48 | lunch stop at a local Winery wine
  • 4:51 | tasting was certainly not something I
  • 4:53 | anticipated doing in
  • 4:56 | Morocco we’ve come to a Moroccan Winery
  • 5:00 | where we’re going to have some lunch and
  • 5:01 | then some wine tasting sounds like a
  • 5:04 | good plan to me Moroccan wine we’ve
  • 5:06 | traced this so far has been
  • 5:11 | excellent despite Morocco being a
  • 5:13 | predominantly Muslim country where
  • 5:15 | alcohol is generally discouraged by
  • 5:17 | religion it has a long history of wine
  • 5:20 | production dating back to Roman times in
  • 5:23 | fact it’s one of the largest producers
  • 5:25 | of wine in North Africa mainly for the
  • 5:28 | tourist and Export markets
  • 5:37 | [Music]
  • 5:41 | it’s a pretty fancy
  • 5:46 | [Music]
  • 5:55 | Winery okay so we come here and as you
  • 5:58 | can see here we we have all kind of wi
  • 6:01 | that we produce here of course it’s
  • 6:03 | classified into different levels of the
  • 6:06 | quality after a hearty lunch and a quick
  • 6:09 | tour of the winery it was time to hit
  • 6:11 | the road five more hours of driving lay
  • 6:13 | ahead before we’d reach kazab Blanka
  • 6:27 | [Music]
  • 6:38 | [Music]
  • 7:10 | so we’re back in cassablanca where it
  • 7:13 | all started from we’re back in the same
  • 7:15 | Hotel so we left esaa this morning sadly
  • 7:18 | we had a lovely time there it was a love
  • 7:21 | very relaxing Seaside town so it was
  • 7:23 | nice to finish our trip um close to the
  • 7:27 | water so we felt a lot more relaxed
  • 7:28 | there and it’s cobblestones and just got
  • 7:31 | a really nice Vibe about it there’s
  • 7:33 | something about the water and the ocean
  • 7:35 | that helps relax you I think yeah we
  • 7:37 | really enjoyed really enjoyed our three
  • 7:39 | days there could have even had an extra
  • 7:41 | day or two it was that nice and relaxing
  • 7:44 | we made our way back this morning to
  • 7:46 | Casablancas this will be our last night
  • 7:48 | here before we head off tomorrow we
  • 7:51 | stopped at a just a town along the way
  • 7:54 | so our tour guy just stopped the bus out
  • 7:56 | of the blue because he saw a horse
  • 7:58 | festival Fantasia I think it was called
  • 8:03 | [Music]
  • 8:31 | it’s a traditional Moroccan horse
  • 8:33 | festival where the guys dress up there’s
  • 8:36 | you know maybe seven of them all on
  • 8:38 | Horseback in traditional costumes
  • 8:40 | carrying a a big heavy musket Lydia held
  • 8:44 | one of the muskets which was very very
  • 8:46 | heavy I was a little bit concerned cuz
  • 8:48 | I’m like is this loaded if I
  • 8:50 | accidentally drop it is it going to go
  • 8:52 | both so I was quite happy to hand it
  • 8:54 | back and uh but they they ride down this
  • 8:58 | big long field about 200 M long carrying
  • 9:01 | these muskets and they all have to stay
  • 9:03 | in sink and ride in sink and then at the
  • 9:05 | end they shoot their muskets into the
  • 9:07 | sky in syn so it sounds like one shot
  • 9:11 | and if they can do all that they score
  • 9:13 | high marks I guess um so we saw them
  • 9:16 | practicing that they weren’t actually
  • 9:17 | dressed up in their costumes and they
  • 9:19 | didn’t actually fire their muskets
  • 9:21 | because they were just practicing uh for
  • 9:23 | tonight’s competition but it was really
  • 9:26 | interesting something that just happened
  • 9:29 | out of the
  • 9:34 | [Music]
  • 9:44 | blue we will be sad to say goodbye to
  • 9:47 | especially to our tour guide ilas and
  • 9:49 | his brother Morad but uh yeah sadly this
  • 9:52 | is our last night in Morocco well we’ve

  • 10:11 | loved it so much that um we may just
  • 10:14 | have to come back again from time and

In Episode 15 of our Morocco vlog road trip, we travel from Essaouira to Casablanca. We visit an Argan Forest to discover if Moroccan goats really do climb trees, and stumble upon a Fantasia (Tbourida) Festival.

We start our day with a visit to a forest of Argan trees, native to the Essaouira and Agadir region. From there, we head to an Argan Oil Cooperative, where we watch a demonstration of the traditional process used to produce this precious oil.

After feasting for lunch at a local winery, we continue to Casablanca, making an impromptu stop along the way at a Fantasia competition. This traditional horseback performance, with Berber origins, simulates a military assault by cavalry, showcasing the skill and unity of the riders.

We spend one final night in Casablanca, before bidding a heartfelt farewell to Morocco. We have loved every moment we have spent in this incredible country, and we are eternally grateful to all the wonderful Moroccan people who made our journey so special. Thank you for the warmth, hospitality, and memories that will stay with us forever.
