B0DSVHBKVF, From #1 bestselling author of The Perfect Couple Elin Hilderbrand, and her daughter, Shelby Cunningham: the irresistible, deliciously scandalous story of one drama-filled year at a New England boarding school.

It’s move-in day at Tiffin Academy and amidst the happy chaos of friends reuniting, selfies uploading, and cars unloading, shocking news arrives: America Today just ranked Tiffin the number two boarding school in the country. It’s a seventeen-spot jump – was there a typo? The dorms need to be renovated, their sports teams always come in last place, and let’s just say…, 4,

Title: Absolutely Fabulous
Review: I have just finished binge reading this excellent book by Elin Hilderbrand and her daughter, Shelby Cunningham. It has kept me hostage to the Tiffin Academy faculty and students. The authors made every character come alive and we readers cared about their lives, problems and loves. As a retired Prep school teacher I was transported back to those days filled with drama and hope. This book drove home the reality of the impact teachers and students have on each other.I have avoided the Parent/child author craze popular in publishing. Writing is serious business and isn’t necessarily passed on genetically. But Ms.Hilderbrand and Miss Cunningham have opened my mind.I highly recommend this well written and entertaining book.

Title: Privileged, Entitled, and Pressured!
Review: While this world of elite high school boarding schools exists for most outsiders, those unable to even imagine these costs, the world seems unimaginable as it is unattainable. However, while the setting is almost a character in the story, the conflicts increase and thicken the plot when the impact of a social media app, a version of a tik tok takes hold of the student body, faculty, and administration. Secrets become exposed fracturing relationships and threatening careers. The characters reflect the range of youth, the needs, reasons, and impacts of such boarding schools. And the pressures of the school are shown. Not to spoil the story, but the contents of one letter are not revealed.Worth a read.

Title: Priorities
Review: You’ll have to read the book to understand the title of this review. Explaining it would give away an important plot element. This is an abnormal book for me, a senior citizen with interests in ancient history/archaeology and naval action/adventure. It’s a coming of age story set in an elite private school (fictional) in western Massachusetts. I’m not even a preppie, I’m a public school boy from New Jersey but growing up near New York I had some idea of the allusions to people and places sprinkled freely throughout the story.Setting a novel in a school is nothing new. Two novels I had to read in English classes, A Separate Piece and Catcher in the Rye, owe a lot to that environment. I didn’t like either of them. Little Men and Little Women, which I mostly enjoyed, have a similar background but from the 19th century.A school, like a ship, is enclosed so characters can interact without interference. And this one is a complex web of relationships fueled by ambition, sexuality, and greed where something seems to be happening on every page. Unlike A Separate Peace, this book has something positive to say. Even though some of the students have been sent by parents who couldn’t be bothered to care for them, others chose a private boarding school to escape problems in their home lives. Heck, half the world’s navies were manned by teenagers who ran away from home! There’s teenage angst here but also romance. It’s fast moving even though it’s not short. It’s organized by the action taking place in one academic year, in a sort of Aristotelian dramatic unity. For mature readers there’s millennial slang to contend with but it’s a worthwhile read.

Review: Probably a good read for teenagers or tweens. Not a typical storyline for this author

Title: Different read
Review: This was not my favorite Elin Hilderbrand book and honestly I should have waited for book 2 to be released and read them back to back. As expected the ending leaves unanswered questions and I’m sure book 2 will address them.I enjoyed all the characters and felt, even tho some scenarios were a little far fetched, these people could actually exist.I do believe she touched on some personality issues and then left them unexplored. So again hoping book 2 delves into this.I enjoyed a different setting than Nantucket.

Title: A little YA , a little not
Review: I love Elin H she is one of my favorite authors . I enjoyed this book but I can see how some people would think it’s YA. The only thing is there are a couple of explicit NOT YA scenes. If I were here daughter I would have been mortified when those scenes were being written no matter how close they are ! I liked it, but it’s definitely not the typical Elin read.

Review: I’ve read all of Elin Hilderbrand’s novels, but I approached The Academy with caution in case the boarding school setting and the addition of her daughter Shelby as co-writer had diluted Elin’s distinctive (and addictive) writing style.Happily, I can report that this isn’t the case and The Academy is a fantastic read with a good mixture of adult and teenage characters, love stories and mysteries. My favourite characters were Simone, Dub, East, Davi and Charley. The New England setting is beautifully evoked (although it was never going to be able to compete with Nantucket or St John) and Elin’s trademark descriptions of food are thankfully also present! I was wondering how she would transfer them to this setting, but she solves that problem by drafting in a Michelin chef who has fallen on hard times and is now (reluctantly) in charge of the school cuisine.Shelby (who attended a posh boarding school in Rhode Island) makes sure all the dialogue and details are realistic and bang up to date, but this is still very much an Elin Hilderbrand novel. There’s plenty of scope for a sequel to The Academy – Dub is so deep in the closet that all his friends think he’s straight and nobody has a clue why Cinnamon took her own life. Looking forward to it!

Review: I found the book interesting and enjoyable. It may have been aimed at a younger crowd, but I still enjoyed the characters, all the well described areas in and around the Academy. Everything was described so vividly, I felt I was there. It was nice to get away from Nantucket and have a totally new experience. All the characters were so well developed, as the book ended I still wanted to read more. Hopefully this means there will be a sequel. I’m impressed with this mother/daughter writing team. Well done!
