Title: ALMOST perfect
Review: The only reason I’m taking a star off is because I felt Ashlyn’s story was rushed and an afterthought. I felt this book had very little to do with her and I was surprised how much time we spent on Belle and Hemi. That said! The author did a masterful job of putting us in each character’s shoes! It was brilliantly written! I was on Belle’s side, then I was on Hemi’s side, then I was on Belle’s side again! Each twist was not too predictable but not out of left field. The story hooked me and wouldn’t let go. It was also an interesting look at history. I had completely forgotten the pro-Nazi sentiment among some Americans; it was timely with what’s going on in our country now.So the story has history and so much angst and tension and romance! But it was also supposed to have this magical realism bent that lent almost nothing to the story. I was only disappointed that we didn’t get more of Ashlyn and Ethan. But otherwise, a truly engaging book! Lots to discuss in book club!!

Title: Absolutely Beautiful
Review: If only we all could have such wonderful endings in life. There’s a theme of community here and if we all had that along with the financial security it would be a beautiful world. Ashlin doesn’t have her parents and their story is traffic, but she has a father figure who teaches her a trade, gives her the opportunity for education and leaves her a home along with a sense of purpose and revenue stream. And despite the tragedy w/ her husband she’s ok and able to move forward in life because she still has a home, business, community & purpose. Dickey’s son also has those things with his education, employment, students, faculty, his father’s house and inheritance. Marian is only able to live the life she does because she has her mother’s inheritance, along with a friendship/family, a family in France & 2 children she’s able to raise via inheritance wealth & because of that freedom further community, sense of purpose & joy with her work. Illese & Zach has always had financial security, love, encouragement, family & careers. Hemi has very secure financial wealth and stability from his career writing books. Despite them all claiming & finding each other thru “love,” they all have financial security, education, community, purpose, and some sort of family. But can you imagine the hell for those of us that know we have the capability if only we had stability, financial security, most importantly community & some sort of family. It’s why the 1st step a lot of social workers take for the mentally ill/homeless is family reunification. But a majority of those families that disposed of the person they don’t change & then society persecutes us. A high IQ does nothing if you can’t get your feet under you. But the story is beautiful, wishful dreaming with all the ends tied up which I love to read in a book. I do wish we could have heard the wedding announcement or heard a little more about how the kids adjusted to Hemi or how Hemi felt getting to met his son, etc., maybe there’s a sequel in the works. I can’t wait to read more books by this author!

Title: Amazing!
Review: I was skeptical at first, but as I read and listened, I was captivated. I would go from listening, stopping whatever I was doing, to sit down and read because I was impatient to see what was next. The narrators did a superb job, but I read faster than I like to listen, lol. This has become one of my favorite books. It’s timeless, and I will be reading/listening again. It’s that good.

Title: Love’s Journey
Review: Barbara Davis does a masterful job of unveiling a love story piece by piece. She includes the unvarnished truth about true love: the highs, lows, agony, longing, and uncertainty. This is a book that should be read in one or two days. In particular, the last half is a page-turner. Enjoy the ride.

Review: Beautifully written – it will appeal to old book lovers! (That is old books, not old people!) A tale of love, woven through family upsets and long ago secrets. I enjoyed the journey with the author, and I loved the fact that all the ends were tied up – it doesn’t leave you wondering what happened!
