Title: Well-made and sturdy
Review: I read a lot of the reviews here before deciding to buy this. As usual, most if not all of the bad reviews are because of user error. Some claim that it can’t handle heavier things like soda cans. As soon as I unpacked it, I tested it by grabbing a 20-ounce jar of applesauce with it. No problem. I suspect they tried to use the tips of the jaws instead of the rubber-lined throat. Would you handle a wine bottle with your fingertips, or would you wrap your fingers around it? I next grabbed a one-pound box of dry pasta and it did fine. Some claim that the jaws don’t open very wide. My ruler reads 3.75 inches. How much wider do you really need? And there’s always the problem of leverage. If you want the jaws to open wider, either you’ll have to accept having to squeeze further or squeeze harder. There’s no free lunch. You have to sacrifice travel or gripping power. Basic physics. Another complaint is that they couldn’t get out cans that were tightly packed on a shelf. You wouldn’t be able to squeeze your fingers around them either. Try leaving some space between the cans. They claim it’s too heavy. My scale says it’s a whopping 9.5 ounces, or a little over a half pound. Less than a can of soda.Another person complained that the jaws don’t rotate on the shaft. It took me five seconds to figure it out. They’re normally fixed so you don’t have to worry about them twisting when you’re trying to grab a heavier item. But just pull the jaw assembly out a little bit and it rotates easily, then you can turn it in 90º increments. There is even a small instructional graphic on the jaw assembly: 1) Pull, 2) Twist. Someone else said the magnet is only strong enough to pick up paper clips. I was able to lift a 15mm box end Crescent wrench with mine. Must be some pretty big paper clips.Way too many people complaining that it was broken in shipping. Then take advantage of Amazon’s free exchange instead of whining. Others say it’s not ergonomic and takes a strong grip. The pistol handle is the most ergonomic you could ask for, especially with the inverted trigger that takes advantage of the stronger index and middle fingers. I suspect those folks are gripping it at the bottom of the handle. The “wings” on the sides are supposed to rest on top of your index finger and thumb.I wish the thin-gauge steel shaft was longer, but the 32″ reach is still pretty useful. And the one-piece shaft is actually not a bad thing. That makes it stiff and there’s no play from joints working loose.I was relieved to find that the hanging hole at the end of the shaft does in fact swivel. The product photos always showed that hole aligned with the pistol grip, so I was afraid that that was a fixed position. I can hang it up flat against the wall and not have the handle sticking out.

Title: Solid reacher tool for everyday pickup
Review: This Unger 32” Grabber Plus reacher tool works well for grabbing trash, dropped items, and high shelf stuff around the house. The 32-inch length gives decent reach without feeling too bulky, and the built-in magnet helps with small metal pieces like screws or keys. The trigger is comfortable and the jaws grip most items securely. It’s lightweight and the economic design keeps the price reasonable. The only downside is that the gripper isn’t the strongest on very small or flat objects. Still, a handy tool for daily use in NYC apartments or garages.

Title: Well made and strong.
Review: It works great. I especially like the magnet in one of the “claws”, it makes it easier to pick up very small metallic objects like a small screw or nut. Also being able to swivel the claw is a nice feature.

Title: Reaching for the stars
Review: This is so close to the perfect reacher. I had an EZPIK that snapped on me at one of the weak points when I was picking up something. I figured I’d try something else since I really didn’t like it.I got this after researcing a few but forgot to check the length. Oh no! Sadly, I need a 36″ version insstead of 32″. I’m 6’2″ and I have to bend over just a smidge to pick stuff up.Everything else is better than the EZPIK in my opinion. It doesn’t collapse so it doesn’t have weak points in the middle pole. The teeth actually close fully as opopsed to my EZPIK which left a gap so I could not grab paper. It’s not flimsy and feels sturdy, but it’s light weight enough that there isn’t any wrist fatigue. Lastly it has a rotating head (the EZPIK had this as well) which is nice to turn if you need to (useful for bottles and cans).I’d say if you’re under 6’0″ then this is probably the perfect grabber. If they make a 36″ (I know they have one already, but I prefer the squeeze handle that the Grabber Plus has vs the nifty nabber), I’ll buy it in a heartbeat. I think I’m going to try their heavy duty 42″ rugged version and see if it fairs any better.

Title: Unger 32” Grabber Plus Reacher Tool and Trash Picker Upper
Review: This model definitely has a better build quality and is much more durable and capable than the ones being sold as the “best seller” (and it’s endless clones from endless storefronts) that come up in search results. Those “best sellers” are garbage. They can’t even pick up a can of 12oz soda, this one with its all around better designs and vastly superior build quality, has no problem with it. The structure was clearly designed to handle such a task with ease. To aid in it’s strength, it’s got these very effective rubber grippers at the ends of the tongs and they do exactly that, grip, particularly fabric/cloth/textiles, which is great for my two main tasks for it: transferring laundry in/out of washer/dryer and open/close drapes. The “best seller” in contrast struggled with the weight of damp laundry coming out of the wash headed for the dryer and it wouldn’t grip well to the drapes. It’s not perfect, and could use a few minor tweaks, but given the lack of fidelity with the managed “stars” system where now we only 3 choices (1-3=bad, 4=good enough, but not great and 5=great) and its far superior construction, I give it a 5. But on a non-managed, actual ranking I give it a 4.5, which equals: great product, could use a few minor changes, but still worthy of recommendation.

Title: Best reacher I’ve ever had!
Review: Best reacher I’ve ever had! Long and sturdy, with great ability to pick up stuff from the floor. I’m 84, with arthritis in my hands and back and this is a life-saver–especially when something rolls under a cabinet. It clamps onto larger items, too.
