Title: LOVED THIS BOOK
Review: I absolutely loved this book and couldn’t put it down. I read it in 3 sittings which is unusual for me. I put down everything that had to be done in order to read it. I was deeply moved by the characters who were so realistic that I felt as though I knew them. I vacationed in Nova Scotia many years ago and was generally familiar with the explosion in the harbor but this book described it in such a way that I experienced it first hand.I highly recommend this book and believe it was a brilliant first historical novel by this author. I look forward to more work from her and thank her for this beautiful book.

Title: Unknown Tragedy in Halifax
Review: This was a great book exploring the tragedy of war, in this case WWI, and an explosion that happened in Halifax during the war. It is basically about two women involved in this event and some of the details are very sad and challenging to read. The main character is a nurse and who doesn’t love a good story about a nurse and all her trials? I have just read a few novels about WWI after visiting Ipres in Belgium. So many Canadians gave their lives for that cause…so reading a story about the women left behind was a good follow-up. Real life circumstances that really happened to women in both world wars were explored and then a shocking and devastating explosion on top of that! I enjoyed the read!!

Title: Excellent characters woven into historical fiction!
Review: I love to read historical fiction and I chose this particular novel because the setting is something I had never heard of! Of course I could use the excuse that I am a US citizen, born and raised in the 🇺🇸, but I spent many wonderful vacations in Canada. However, I have never been to Halifax, Nova Scotia where this story takes place. The characters and narrative spare no detail in how horrible the explosion in Halifax Harbor was! But along with the grief and devastation, there are many threads of hope and love, all set in the midst of World War I.

Title: so much death
Review: This was a good historical fiction but it had so much death. I understand due to the explosion that was going to be the case but it got gruesome it some parts. Lots of suffering. It got better at the end when Nora understood the true meaning of love. I wish the lives of the two narrators were intertwined more and deeply as that was the premise of the book. But their lives only came across very briefly. In this part the book was a let down. The best of the book was Neil. I wish they had more pages together at the end maybe an epilogue? Showing their renewed relationship and living happily after so much suffering, loss and death.

Title: Great historical fiction
Review: I really enjoyed this story about Nora. I young nurse whose life changes drastically. She becones pregnant after a one night stand and is present when the Halifax explosion occurs. The story revolves around the tragedy of the explosion and her personal life. It was easy to become so involved with the character’s and the circumstances they had to confront

Review: I haven’t read a novel in a long time, so when I heard about this book, I ordered it. Because I lived in Dartmouth and worked at Victoria General Hosp over 40 years ago, I could picture many scenes described. I read it in 3 sittings, which is rare for me, but couldn’t put this book down. I highly recommend this book and thank the author.

Review: Wow, this book was a power house of emotions. Love, loss, sadness, heartbroken sobs, happiness, I felt it all. This kept me reading into the early hours and I found myself recommending it to others before finishing the book. I love the characters of Nora and Neil, it really made me think about the brave doctors and nurses who put others before themselves when they must have been so frightened. Even though I found this story to be predictable, it took nothing away from the pleasure of reading it. This is an amazing read which includes a little history and grips the reader within the first few chapters.
