Title: A good place to start
Review: I’m preparing for my first foray into wireless networking (yeah, I know, about time I got into the 21st century), and after online researching, was totally confused about where to start. I didn’t even know enough to know what questions to ask.This handy little book went a long way toward helping me figure it all out. It assumes a basic knowledge of computers in general, but goes on to explain in plain English what wireless networking is, what it can do, and how you can do it. There are also little sidebars of more technical background information if you’re so inclined, but you can ignore these and still get what you need to know from the main body of information.You will get good information on what equipment to buy (and not buy), how to set it up, pitfalls you may encounter, and much is written about the all-important wireless security measures you must take. Whether you simply want to network one desktop and one laptop, or go all out and turn your home into the Starship Enterprise, this book will help you.It does tend to get a little redundant in some areas, and of course there are the obligatory shameless plugs for other “dummies” books, but imo, these are not worth knocking a star off. And the authors readily admit that they are writing in generalities, as all homes and all systems are different, and have different requirements. So after reading this book, you will still need to do some further research to find specifically what works for you.But bottom line, I would highly recommend this book, whether you are a newbie to wireless, or just want to update yourself on the newest trends and technology. To me, it was well worth the price paid.

Title: An Overwhelming Amount of Information
Review: My title may be misleading in that it may depict too much information. This is far from the truth. This book covers all aspect of a wireless network that’s available. After reading this book, you’ll walk away with a complete knowledge of how to create a wireless network. The contents is written in a manner most readers can understand. Technical terms are used but are explained using common terminology.Having years of computer technical background, I found this book complete in it’s information. This is the ideal book for anyone in the computer field. The only drawback in this book becomes clear if all you want to do is a simple task such as creating a wireless network to access the internet. In such a case, to a non technical reader, you would have to dig through countless pages to find what is needed.I guess it comes down to if you want a book that shows you all aspects of a wireless network or a specific task. This book covers all of it.

Review: I thought this would be a more recent treatise on wireless networks, but this, unfortunately, was last updated in 2014, so it’s missing a lot of current information. It’s helpful with some terminology but really doesn’t cover more recent developments.

Review: I didn’t realize this was a 13 year old guide. There are parts made me feel like a true dummy for buying this book.For example, security suggestions so outdated, that if followed, you’ll be sure to be demolished by hackers by the end of the week. And paid $15 for the privilege of metaphorically walking into traffic.Please don’t.There are a few slightly entertaining sections. Like, if you want to read about how excited networking pros were, a decade ago, about a new lil feature called “Bluetooth”, and how one day in the distant future, we might have the potential to control home accessories from our cell phones….GASP!….Then this book is for you.But whole-heartedly suggest to click a different product link like a hot potato. But move fast, because the year 2000 is soon coming soon! And obviously, before the clock strikes midnight, we’ll need to reformat all of the world’s computers – from scratch – to prevent an apocalypse!

Title: A good beginning book on the subject.
Review: ‘Wireless Home Networking for Dummies’ gives the information needed tounderstand home networking and get your own system up and working. Itwould probably be best to read the first chapters of the book beforegoing out and purchasing any networking gear. The author explains what tolook for in new gear and points out compatibility problems with older gear.The book is well worth its cost.

Title: Long on words – Short on info.
Review: This book could be condensed by over half without the reader suffering. It is repetitive, repetitive, repetitive. Did I mention that it is repetitive? It reminds me of the morning national “news” programs on TV: the first third highlights things yet to come, the last third rehashes things already discussed, and the middle third covers very little new ground not already highlighted or ultimately rehashed, and hardly any of it is news anyhow. In the chapter on networking your home entertainment systems, network adapters are actually recommended that were discontinued from sale earlier in this decade! Save your money and find what you need to know about wireless networking from your local computer store. One final comment: repitition can be an effective training aid if, and only if, you have something worth repeating.
