The best steak and ale pie is a great British classic and in this steak and ale pir recipe shortcrust I will be showing you how to make the best steak and ale!

This is the best meat pie you can find on the British dinner table and one of the things that makes this one a cut above the rest is the ale used, unfortunately I cant name the ale for copyright reasons but it’s a locally produced ale to my area that’s a great golden ale made mainly with malts but also has a slight hoppy taste of which both the flavours really come through in the flavour of the pie.

I have demonstrated here how to make the pies individually for a much neater presentation but the same recipe works fantastic as a large pie that you can slice and serve.

The recipe for the pie filling is:

800g Diced Stewing Steak
800ml golden Ale
160g Diced Onion
10g Chopped Garlic
2 Oxo Cubes
3 Bay Leaves
A Pinch Of Thyme

Some type of gravy to thicken

The Shortcrust Recipe:

500g Plain Flour
250g Unsalted Butter
10g Salt
Usually water to bind but I used surplus beer this time!
