Title: Fine for a few basic words, but very limited overall (voice doesn’t sound like a kid)
Review: I work as a preschool teacher for students with special needs and I have several students who are on the autism spectrum. I got this wondering if it might be helpful for any of them. I wish it was more “programmable” so you could change specific words or add other items. There are a few spaces on the bottom to record new words, but it’s not easy to put a tiny picture in there, plus the voice obviously sounds drastically different from the auto generated mechanical voice. There are two voices, a man and a woman. However wish they were more “kid” sounding, as they’re fully adult sounding voices. But overall this is a pretty simple tool, and I knew that when ordering. So for what you get, it’s average. The sound output is pretty good, it’s very easy to use, and you don’t have to push the buttons too hard. Some of my kids love it. It’s been thrown a few times and still holds up, so I would say it’s pretty durable. And also pretty compact and easy to carry. Overall it’s very similar to other items like this on the market. It’s NOT super diverse, so if you’re looking for a lot of language options, this probably isn’t for you. But if you just want a few words for basic communication, it might be worth a shot.

Title: Lifesaver For People Who Can’t Speak!
Review: This speaking device works great! I can’t say enough good things about it. This device is extremely easy to use! You literally just hit the power switch to the male / female voice (you pick which one) and you’re ready to go! There’s 28 pre-programmed words and phrases along with 6 buttons that you can program yourself using your own voice. You could easily use this at a workplace, school, or a family member who can’t communicate properly. There are 2 buttons for volume control on the device so you can adjust the sound level depending on where you are. There are two downsides to this device I’d like to mention, although they aren’t deal breakers for me. First, id like to mention that this device doesn’t come with the 2 AAA batteries required to make it work. I thought that was strange and only sort of irritating. Installing the batteries is easy and fast though once you get a tiny screwdriver. I like that the battery compartment needs a screwdriver to open it though so that kids can’t mess with it. The other downside I found is that the device itself is made of a thin plastic and I feel like it could break easily if it were to be dropped or something like that. I’m not sure how durable this thing would be long-term.Overall, this communication talking device works great, is extremely easy to use, and can come in handy in certain situations / circumstances. Each order includes the device, a set of instructions, and a carrying bag so you do get some value for your money with this.

Title: AAC Device with all the Basics
Review: This AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) device has the basics covered with 28 preprogrammed phrases, the ability to record an additional 6 buttons, 3 volume levels, and the ability to have a masculine or feminine speaker. I find the speaker is clear and easy to understand with the preprogrammed phases as well as the recorded ones. It comes with a drawstring carrying pouch and “User Manual” which is a small, laminated sheet with the simple directions for use. While it is not a seriously sturdy item, it is meant as a tool and not a toy and should last for some time if used appropriately. It is light weight at 5.96 oz with the batteries in place. Some of the buttons have very intuitive diagram as to what the phrase is while others are a “learn as you go.” For instance, the buttons for “I like it” and “I don’t like it” are thumbs up and down with a full heart and a broken heart. Makes sense. However, “Yes” is the checkmark and “No” is the X on the buttons. Then we have overlapping buttons which I would rather have had an additional record button or phrase such as the buttons for “I’m tired” and “I’m feeling sleepy.”I also found that the corner buttons and all the buttons on the bottom require a bit of additional pressure and the pressure must be at just the right angle to function. This would make it a bit more difficult to use for children who have physical delays or adults who have functional issues. This device does require 2 AAA batteries which are NOT included. I personally prefer batteries as I don’t have to remember to keep it charged, but I am aware there are many who prefer a rechargeable USB option. This device is an economical alternative when needed for communication.

Review: My wife is a therapist and works with pre-school and elementary school-aged kids, and she loves this device and uses it frequently for work purposes. Its speech output is clear and there are plenty of common phrases captured in the device. The ability to record additional phrases is a nice touch and works well, but she doesn’t use it regualrly. Docked a star for the lack of haptic feedback on the buttons though. Battery life is sufficient although this is subjective and will vary based on usage.

Review: This wonderful device will come in handy for an autistic nonverbal acquaintance. As there is no one certain plan to teach specific needs, this will help with every day communication between student, patient, teacher, and parent. It’s only 8“ x 7“ and comes with a bag and instructions. It takes two triple AAA batteries ( not included). The price point is affordable. I really hope this makes a difference in this person‘s life.
