When it comes to my feelings about Big Mac sauce, “I’m lovin’ it” doesn’t even come close to covering it. It only requires 8 ingredients (plus salt and pepper) to make it, and some of those ingredients just may surprise you! While this copycat sauce obviously completes the classic Big Mac, its uses go way beyond it. This special sauce goes on just about everything (yes, even Big Mac hot dogs). How To Make Big Mac Sauce
INGREDIENTS
- Mayonnaise: Just like any good burger sauce, the base for Big Mac sauce starts with mayo. The sauce just wouldn’t be the same without it. Mayo-averse folks should look for another recipe!
- Sweet Pickle Relish: The relish not only adds the signature green flecks to our sauce, but also that sweet-vinegary taste that turns this into a must-have burger sauce.
- Dijon Mustard: Dijon adds the perfect sharp, tangy flavor to our sauce.
- Paprika: If you thought ketchup was in Big Mac sauce, you’ll be just as surprised as me to learn it’s not! Where does the signature pink color come from? Paprika! Make sure to use the reddest paprika you can find, and if you’re feeling a little extra, use smoked paprika.
- Granulated Sugar: Surprised again? Big Mac sauce has a tiny bit of sweetness, and a little bit of sugar balances out the rest of our flavors
- Beef Bouillon: There was another ingredient that left me scratching my head when creating this sauce: yeast extract, a flavor enhancer used in food manufacturing that adds umami to whatever it’s used in. Vegemite and Marmite are the closest you’re going to get to it as a home cook, but since I know not everyone has this ingredient stocked in their pantry, I went with the next best thing—a beef bouillon paste, which is composed of concentrated beef stock and yeast extract.
- Garlic & Onion Powder: A little bit of garlic and onion powder work together perfectly to create the signature savory, rich flavor.
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
This sauce is so easy to create, there’s no excuse for not whipping it up when you’re craving a burger flavor-enhancer. Grab a medium-sized bowl, and combine all of your ingredients until you create a smooth sauce. Give it a taste, and season with salt and pepper as needed. Once it tastes like your perfect Big Mac Sauce, refrigerate it until you’re ready to top your burgers (or anything you please).
