Title: Ugly
Review: This is the second time I have tried OTC hearing aids. My next pair will be the very expensive ones fitted by a professional. I have several friends with hearing loss and the only ones that consistently wear their hearing aids are the people that opted for professionally fitted aids and are happy with the quality of the sound improvement and the appearance. My wife said I looked like some alien being with these silver lumps sitting atop my ears. I’m not that sensitive about how they looked and all I wanted was better hearing. These fell far short of what I expected.

Title: Provide adequate amplification, Stays in ear
Review: These are a rechargeable version of previous ones I had of the same design that were battery operated. I tried several in-the-canal models but couldn’t find ones that would stay in my ear when eating. So, decided to go back to this design. The older ones failed after about three years of daily (10-12 hrs) use so cannot complain given the price of them.Pros:Stay in my ears when eating.Volume is easily set even when wearing them. I set them between 0-1 when watching TV and 1-2 when driving or noisy environments.Noice cancellation works as advertised, I’ve had no issues wearing them in a noisy environment.Like the off/on switch, much better than having to open the battery case to turn off/on.Tonal quality is very good, speech is clear even when answering my phone.Cons:Can easily be seen in the ear due to their size. No big deal for me.Volume adjustment is cumbersome, constantly have to adjust in different environments.Have to take off to adjust volume.So, I would recommend these for anyone needing assistance hearing in quiet or noisy environments.

Title: A Creepy Thing Happened
Review: My mother has been wearing amplifiers for at least 5 years now. They are easier and cheaper to replace than the multiple hearing aids she loses or easily breaks. Yes, I know hearing aids are cheaper now, but they’re not affordable enough for the amount of times she loses them or breaks them.Yes, she often charges the amplifiers overnight, and yes she often uses a cord other than the very short one(s) that come with the amplifier (some as short as 1 foot).I walked into her room last night smelling burning plastic but had no idea where it was coming from. I assumed it was coming from outside our apartment after I couldn’t find the source. This morning she complained that she couldn’t figure out how to plug up her amplifier. Assuming she just wanted me to do it for her, I marched into her room annoyed (I was just grumpy).I never in a million years expected to see what I saw. The tip was melted on the charger. The amplifier too had also melted on the inside where it is charged. I know these over charging incidents happen with other things. I just never expected it to happen with her very small amplifier.This is a first for us and scared the bejeepers out of me. So I share this to give a heads up.
