MOROCCO: Valley of 1000 Kasbahs

In Episode 10 of our Morocco Vlog road trip we visit Dades Gorges, hike Dades Valley oasis, climb the canyon’s winding roads by local bus & journey the “Road of 1000 Kasbahs” from Tinghir to Ouarzazate, & onwards to Ait Benhaddou.

Today we drive from the stunning Todra Gorge to the Dades Valley. Over centuries, the Oued Dades (Dades River) has carved magnificent gorges into the southern slopes of the High Atlas Mountains (Gorges du Dadès). The drive from Boumalne Dades through the valley of kasbahs, past the Monkey Fingers rock formation, to our beautiful Riad is breathtaking.

The next morning, our Maroc guide leads us on a spectacular hike through the Dades Oasis, where lush fields of grain, vegetables, and vibrant poppies line the valley floor. Afterward, we hop on a local bus for a thrilling ride up the snaking road of 180-degree switchbacks through the gorge. The view from the top is unbeatable!

We continue our journey, passing many of those one thousand kasbahs, on the way to Ouarzazate, the “Hollywood of Morocco”, and onwards to the iconic ksar of Ait Benhaddou.
