MERZOUGA, MOROCCO: Music, Culture, and Life in the Dunes

MERZOUGA, MOROCCO: Music, Culture, and Life in the Dunes

Episode 8 of our Morocco vlog takes us into the Sahara Desert. Visit Merzouga Oasis & a Nomadic Camp by 4×4, enjoy traditional Gnawa Music, & travel by camel to a luxury desert camp in the sand dunes for overnight glamping. In this video we explore the incredible culture of the people of the desert and see how they survive in these harsh conditions.

After witnessing a breathtaking sunrise over the golden Erg Chebbi Sand Dunes, we embark on a 4WD desert excursion to explore life in the Sahara. Our first stop is the Oasis of Merzouga, where we discover how water is transported across the desert through a system of hand-dug tunnels, called Khettara, followed by a visit to a Bedouin camp to learn how nomadic people survive on the desert’s edge.

Next, we head to the village of Khamlia, the heart of Gnawa Music and Berber Pizza. The traditional Moroccan music here is absolutely hypnotic and full of joy. Africa is all about Rhythm!

Later, we journey deep into the sand dunes by camel train, the true ships of the desert, and spend an unforgettable night in a luxury desert camp: Sahara Desert Glamping at its best. Surrounded by amazing Moroccan cuisine and more traditional Merzouga music, we couldn’t resist getting up and dancing.

If you love immersive travel experiences, this video is perfect for you. Whether you’re a seasoned traveler, an empty nester looking for new adventures, or simply curious about life in the Sahara, you’ll enjoy the breathtaking landscapes, rich culture, and unique experiences we share.
